David Marshall studied Christian theology at Oxford University before gaining a doctorate at Birmingham University in Islamic studies. He has taught courses on Islam and Christian-Muslim relations at many seminaries and universities including St Paul's University, Limuru, Kenya; Duke Divinity School; Georgetown University; and Edinburgh University, focusing particularly on the Qur'an and debates among Muslims today. An ordained Anglican, he has served the Church in various roles, including in the field of interreligious relations on the staff of the Archbishop of Canterbury and at the World Council of Churches.
