This course offers an introduction to the scripture at the heart of Islam. As well as considering the Qur’an in its original context, the course will pay attention to classical and contemporary Islamic approaches to Qur’anic interpretation, and also to non-Muslim scholarship on the Qur’an. Features of the course include direct reading of a significant amount of the Qur’an in English translation, and the Qur’an in the interface between Islam and Christianity. David Marshall.
