Matthew and his family spent seven years living in North Africa and the Middle East. During this time Matthew earned his Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies, Master of Divinity, and also completed the coursework for his PhD from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. His doctoral work focused on the comparative study of Christian and Islamic concepts of atonement.
