Atonement Theology in Christian-Muslim Engagement: An Online Conversation
Wednesday, April 9, 2025. 5pm Istanbul Time.

Christian faith centers on the belief that the events commemorated each Good Friday and Easter, the suffering, the death and the resurrection of Jesus, opened the way for sinful, rebellious, alienated humans to be reconciled with the creator God of the universe. Indeed, Christians affirm, Jesus’ horrific death and victory over death was the necessary pre-condition for our salvation. Yet thoughtful Muslims often respond to this belief that is treasured and celebrated by Christians with reactions ranging from puzzlement to vehement rejection. As we approach the celebration of Good Friday and Easter this year, how can Muslim and Christian friends talk more intelligently with one another about the Atonement and the shared concerns about God, human evil, and salvation that it brings to light?
Join us for an important and stimulating online conversation with Dr. Brent Neely about his book, Atonement Theology in Conversation with Islamic Thought (Regnum 2024). Dr. Neely’s book offers a fascinating exploration of Christian models of Atonement and asks how Muslim responses might impact how Christians think and talk about the death of Jesus.
